Join us for Free First Thursday Nights at MAM every month from October through June,  5–9 p.m., and enjoy an evening of free art and dynamic programming, including live music, tours, and interactive entertainment. A full-service bar with special First Thursday Night prices sponsored by Pig & Prince, one of Montclair's most celebrated eateries, is open all evening, and food trucks serve a variety of delicious fare.
Offerings will change on a monthly basis, providing something new to see or do at every First Thursday Night.

Free First Thursday Nights return October 2!  Check out our exciting line up:
Thursday, October 2, 5–9 p.m.
  • Full-service bar in partnership with Pig & Prince, Montclair's noted restaurant and gastro-lounge. Enjoy beer from NJ Beer Co, a variety of wines, and select signature cocktails at special Free First Thursday Night prices. Accepts cash or credit.
  • Live music in the galleries featuring the Joel Roi Trio
  • Docent tours of the newly opened From Heart to Hand: African-American Quilts from the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
  • Quilting demonstrations with Nubian Heritage Quilters, in honor of MAM's current exhibition From Heart to Hand: African-American Quilts from the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. This Montclair quilt guild is partnering with MAM at each of the fall Free First Thursdays; stop by each one for something new!
  • Stand up comedy with Francesco Paladino – Francesco Paladino makes a special appearance at MAM, bringing his own brand of charm, humor, and performance art. Prepare to be amused and entertained with answers to the audience’s questions in an improvisational segment called “Be Careful What You Ask For!” along with other stories and quips!
  • Yard School of Art Draw Along Workshop – This drop-in workshop is offered for all ages and abilities! Stop by to try your hand at drawing from a model.
  • Quilt Talk: Edward Bostick – Hear from quilter Edward Bostick at an intimate art talk. Learn more about his work at www.africanamericanquilts-bostick.com
  • The Store at MAM Trunk Sale: Arts Unbound – Arts Unbound, a nonprofit art gallery and studio in Orange, NJ, dedicated to the artistic achievement of individuals living with physical, developmental, and mental disabilities, will be highlighting the works of four featured artists: Christian Markovic, Avary P. Waldron, Tom Yezza, and Stanley Winarsky in The Store at MAM. At the trunk show, visitors will see and have the opportunity to purchase unique stationery, scarves, soft sculpture, and jewelry created by artists living with visual impairment, mental illness, brain injury, Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurological disorders, and developmental disabilities.
  • Exhibition Reception: Jason Towns – Celebrate the exhibition of Jason Town's nontraditional Chinese brush painting in MAM's arcade galleries. Jason Towns, an artist who suffered a brain tumor at age 14, has been at the Montclair Art Museum through Opportunity Project, a Millburn-based organization empowering people with brain injuries, for the past 11 years, both as an Artist in Residence as well as helping to curate exhibits. His works will be on view at MAM through November 2. 
  • Take a peek at the MAM Art Truck, a mobile studio offering projects and lessons to MAM's community from a retrofitted ice cream truck.
  • Food Trucks – The Empanada Guy and Oink and Moo will be on site for hungry visitors!

*There will be no Free First Thursday Night on New Year's Day January 1. Free First Friday will be held as usual on January 2.
